Tamitutu started in about 2016, when the girls in my daughter's dance class needed romantic tutus for a ballet recital. Encouraged by her dance teacher and a fellow tutu maker and mentor to create tutus, I began a small home industry located in Johannesburg, South Africa.  I have always sewn, taught by my Mum as a child, and made many of my own and my children's clothes and my daughter's dance costumes.

Tamitutu was so called after my ballerina daughter's nickname Tamitoo.  She is a Cecchetti ballerina,  studied at KS Dance College in the UK  for a Diploma in Performance Dance with Trinity College, London and is now dancing around Europe. She has her Cecchetti Associates Diploma - teaching and the Cecchetti Final Diploma - a major achievement in the Cecchetti method of dance.  My older daughter is a BVetNurse from Onderstepoort. University of Pretoria and is now working in London, UK.

I joined forces with my good friend, Tessa as our clientele has grown. Her daughter, studying at the moment, danced in the same studio and class as mine and we have known each other for many years now.  She also used to make her daughter's tutus, leotards and skirts.  We spent many an afternoon talking about our patterns and materials.  She has an older Son as well.  Her FB and Instagram sites : Lacy Daisy Dance.  She is a patient and gorgeous costume maker and a fabulous sounding board and partner to my often scatterbrained and random thoughts.
